Magic Items, Week of 9/23/24

This week, I’ve been writing up magic items for D&D 5e based on the characters in my current Eberron game. Magic items have always been one of my favorite parts of TTRPGs. Especially ones which you have to find a good way to put to use. I’ve shared these during the week on my Mastodon page, but some edits were made to those posts due to character limitations.

Inquisitive’s Spectacles

Wonderous Item, Uncommon (Requires Attunement)
These glasses contain a multitude of hinged, moveable, and adjustable lenses with a number of different magnifications and filters to aid an Inquisitive in discovering the evidence they need.

Grants a +1 bonus to Intelligence (Investigation) checks.

Can use an action to cast Detect Magic. This ability can be used three times per day.

Smuggler’s Coin

Wonderous Item, Uncommon
Placing this coin on the ground and speaking it’s command word creates a circular, horizontal plane of force, 3 feet in diameter and 1 inch thick, that floats 3 feet above the ground in an unoccupied space of your choice that you can see within range. The disk remains for the duration, and can hold up to 500 pounds. If more weight is placed on it, the disk blinks out of existence, and everything on the disk falls to the ground.

If you move more than 20 feet away from the disk, it will move toward you with a movement speed of 20 feet. It can move across uneven terrain, up or down stairs, slopes and the like, but it can’t cross an elevation change of 10 feet or more. For example, the disk can’t move across a 10-foot-deep pit, nor could it leave such a pit if it was created at the bottom.

If you move more than 100 feet from the disk (typically because it can’t move around an obstacle to follow you), the disk blinks out of existence and everything on the disk falls to the ground.

This ability can be used three times per day.

Ring of Meeretsk

Ring, Uncommon (Requires Attunement)
This brass ring bears a draconic visage. While attuned to the ring, the wearer is able to speak with Beasts.
